While this is hardly a definitive guide to the NYC food blogsphere - there are more out there than you can shake a bread stick at - consider this my best-of, go-to list for all things eating related in the city.
THE CORE
Good for: Quickly picking a lunch spot by neighborhood, price, cuisine, and how pretty the photo is.
Midtown Lunch - Dedicated to finding the tastiest lunches under $10 in what's commonly believe to be a culinary wasteland, the crew over at Midtown lunch has highlighted countless steam tables, street carts, and pizza joints since 2006. Recently they've expanded their coverage to downtown (as well as several other cities), so now us poor folks stuck on Wall Street or 388 can benefit from their eating adventures
Good for: Cubiclerats sequestered in the hell known as Midtown...
Sam Sifton @ the New York Times - Stepping into the unenviably large shoes of former NYT food critic Frank Bruni, Sam Sifton has done an excellent job covering the city's culinary trends. My main quibble with Sam is that his focus strays sometimes from the dining experience (i.e. how seriously delicious or not the food is).
Good for: Unsurprisingly pretentious yet erudite reviews of the city's latest culinary additions.
Serious Eats NYC - SE NYC is hands down my foodie bible. While the site originated as a repository for Ed Levine's restaurant reviews, over the years SE NYC and its "missionaries of delicious" have evolved into a behemoth with clever columns such as The Brunch Dish, A Sandwich A Day, In The Midnight Hour, and Meet and Eat (interviews with some of the city's up and coming chefs and food artisans). Trust me, SE will quickly become a massive timesuck for you too.
Good for: Comprehensive coverage of dining in all five boroughs.
AND MORE
Good for: Getting the dish on the latest openings, closing, chef moves, and restaurant custody battles.
Good for: Yummy coverage on Chinese food and tons of great tips on finding the best street food.
Good for: Witty reviews, beautiful photoblogging, and the occasional ridiculous MS Paint illustration a la Hyperbole and a Half.
Good for: Tips on soft openings and foodie steals; plus focus on locavore restaurants and purveyors.
We Heart New YorkGood for: While not strictly a food blog, the authors provide tons of eating related reasons to love our fair city.
What are your favorite foodie sites? Definitely speak up if I've missed some!
Up next: In theory, a recap of the Manhattan Half Marathon that I am supposedly running tomorrow despite weather in the teens, slushtastic road conditions, and a bout of PLAGUE that just won't quit. 50/50 that I actually make it to the 8am start. Please don't kill me, Kim...
Eh, if you don't make it, I can be more irresponsible tonight and take it easy tomorrow. And then write the recap for you.
